Just Journey were recently invited by Tourism Fiji on a trip to the country to learn more about the place and what it has to offer potential visitors from the UK. Alistair ‘reluctantly’ accepted a place on the trip and has just returned from 10 days in the South Pacific exploring all that Fiji has to offer.
After a journey of around 24 hours and two flights, Alistair along with other UK based travel agents, arrived in Fiji and were met by their guide from Tourism Fiji.
Despite the long journey, we were ready for our upcoming adventure and after meeting for breakfast in the town of Nadi we were transported along the southern coast of the main island of Vitu Levu to the Pacific Harbour area.
Two nights were spent here, visiting hotels in the region as well as getting to experience activities on offer such as ziplining through the rainforest.
The area is also a great place for diving although we didn’t get to experience the world-famous shark dive where a variety of shark species are hand fed on the ocean floor. We did however have time for enjoying the beautiful beaches as well as kayaking through the tranquil rivers the run towards the ocean.
After our time at Pacific Harbour we were taken back along the coast, heading west and to the Coral Coast area.
Here there were more spectacular beaches but also plenty of other activities to enjoy. We were taken on a river safari to a local village. This was a highlight of the trip, combining the thrill of a jet boat ride with the local culture. We were welcomed into the village and were privileged to meet the local people and to enjoy time with them before taking part in a traditional Fijian cava ceremony.
After our time on the Coral Coast we travelled further west, visiting other hotels along the way. We then headed to Port Denarau to catch our home for the next three days, a Captain Cook Cruise around the Fijian Islands.
These islands, located off the western coast of Vitu Levu, are spectacular and spending a few days here was a truly memorable experience.
There was time for lots of snorkelling as well as spending time on numerous tropical islands including the one where Castaway starring Tom Hanks was filmed.
Some of the islands are inhabited and we visited some of the villages there. Taking time to walk through them, watching school children playing rugby and meeting the super friendly Fijian people really added to the fantastic experiences we were fortunate enough to enjoy in our time in this amazing country.
Whilst Fiji is a long way from the UK, a journey there is certainly worthwhile. The country is home to some of the most beautiful places imaginable and the friendly people and rich culture make this a unique and spectacular place to visit.
So, if you are interested in such a holiday, whether it be a dedicated holiday to Fiji or elsewhere in the South Pacific or you would like to include a visit when travelling to Australia or New Zealand, let Just Journey know and we can take you there!
